Parag is an avid outdoor enthusiast. He took his son, Aaditya, for an outdoor rock climbing lesson with Rock Climb Every Day. Through the sport of rock climbing, they had a great bonding experience while learning how to climb rocks outdoors with professional instruction.

Throughout the day and during their first climbing experience, they learned proper equipment use, did some top rope climbing, scrambling, repelling, belaying, and learned some important safety skills required to climb with ropes.

One of the most challenging parts of the day for both of them was figuring out climbing technique and overcoming fear of heights, which is very natural for most people trying rock climbing for the first time. With a little instruction and patience, they managed to complete many routes successfully and took on every challenge that came their way.

Starting from a 40 foot wall, then moving onto a 55 foot wall and ending the day climbing a 100 foot wall – these two guys went home with a great feeling of accomplishment and lots of sore muscles.

Great job guys!

We all want to go on vacation often, but the price of purchasing flights these days can keep you sitting at home wishing for a miracle.

You may have already tried all those online websites like Orbitz, CheapTickets, or even Yahoo Travel and went back over and over to see if maybe today will be the day that tickets will be half off.

Well there is a very handy tool I came across the other day and I wouldn’t be writing about it, if I had not tried it myself first. Is simply an iPhone app – yes, I know it sounds nuts, but it works.

A couple of months ago I decided to download this app – Hopper. Just like any other iPhone app you have ever tried, I gave this one a shot, since is free and there is really nothing to lose.

Hopper has a bunny logo, as in bunny hopper – very clever by the way. It is built and designed to predict, watch and book flights easily. But you may ask yourself, aren’t they all!? Well, this one works differently.

I will share my story, so you can get an idea of how amazing this app is. And please don’t think I got paid for writing this, because they don’t even know how much I like them.

I decided to put a few trips on my “hopper watch list”. All you need to do is search for flights, pick your dates and BAAM, you get immediate results from all airlines.

But wait! It doesn’t stop there, you can add those searches to something they like to call “watch-list”. By doing this the app will instantly tell you whether to buy now or wait a little longer. It gives you a prediction on pricing, which varies by season and if they are going to go up or down.

When you have an item on your watch-list, you cat set the app to send you notifications and once the prices go down you will get an immediate notification of the price reduction. You must act fast if the pricing does come thru as you wished, because the sales do not last long.

How is this booking process different? You may ask. Well, I will tell you right now. As many years as I have spent using online services to book my flights, I have never experienced such an easy and painless way to book a flight.

I put a trip from Los Angeles Airport to Puerto Rico on my watch-list, then it gave me an alert that it was on sale for $292! I could not believe it! I quickly went on the app thinking I was going to need a bunch of info, well not. All I needed to add was my name and credit card number. My flight was booked in less than two minutes. Quick and painless.

I took my trip to Puerto Rico, had an amazing time. Spent my extra savings on tours and as soon as I got back, added all the other trips I want to take on my watch-list.

Give this app a try. It has really good ratings on the Apple Store and they definetly won my vote on awesomeness. You won’t regret it.

Happy Travels!

The Stopper Knot is a great backup to other knots. It can be added to the end of the rope, or after another knot to increase security.

This particular knot is most commonly used at the end of the rope; when setting up to rappel, at the end of the rope on the belay side when climbing top-rope, and at the end of any other finishing knot when building anchors.

We have seen the stopper knot at the end of a figure eight knot when climbers tie in and the tail end is too long. This of course is a bad habit to get into; a figure eight alone is strong enough without a stopper knot.

When you see a stopper knot at the end of the rope, it is usually referred to as “closing the system”. In the event that the rope was ever to be too short, the stopper knot will block the rope from coming out of your belay/rappel device. This particular stopper knot will not work on other devices used for canyoneering, or devices with a wider opening that are different from those used for rock climbing.

The Munter Mule is used to secure a munter. It is also used to escape or lock a loaded line in place with the excess rope.

Take a bite of rope from the excess, make a small loop, pass a bite of rope from the same line through the small loop, and finish securing by wrapping that excess around the load line with an over hand knot (or half fisherman’s knot).

Use a larger locking carabiner to allow the hitch to be inverted thru the carabiner when pulled. Make sure to tie off the end of the munter mule snug with an overhand or half fisherman’s knot to avoid it from slipping or coming undone when loaded.

The clove hitch is a very simple knot used to attach a rope a carabiner. Is quick and easy to set up and can bear load in both directions of pull.

The clove hitch is often used for attaching yourself to an anchor with your rope (rather than using a personal anchor system), building anchors and attaching objects to the center of the rope. In the anchoring application, it can be used to start or end an anchor system, as it offers great flexibility and it is adjustable – allowing for easy rigging and equalizing.

Once you have established the right amount of rope needed, make sure to cinch the clove hitch tight – to avoid it from slipping.

The figure eight on a bight is simple and secure. It can be inserted into a carabiner, or over a post. When using the figure eight knot to wrap around a tree or boulder, is better to follow it through after putting the loop around the object.

The tail end must always be checked to be a minimum of six inches long and for load bearing it should be tighten or snug throughout.

Make sure to always inspect your figure eight follow through knot to ensure the two stands are beside each other and follow each part of the knot.
