<h2>Her Inspiring Three Day Rock Climbing Journey</h2>
<p>On her first day she struggled a lot. Trying an easy climb and only being able to complete one route in a half day left her feeling incomplete.</p>
<p>On her second day she climbed three routes. As her inspiration grew with her accomplishments. She <a href="https://rockclimbeveryday.com/2017/01/04/how-to-tie-the-figure-eight-follow-through-knot/">learned</a> how quickly her body was able to adapt and understand <a href="https://rockclimbeveryday.com/2014/06/26/improve-your-climbing-technique/">climbing technique</a>.</p>
<p>On her third day, right away, she climbed non-stop. Climb after climb, we began to grow curious as to why she so eager to climb again, right after completing each route. Her response was, &#8220;I have a goal to climb ten routes today!&#8221;. So regardless of how very hard it might have been for her in the beginning, she was on a mission to climb ten routes by the end of the day.</p>
<p>Two routes before her goal, she began to feel her body giving up. It is quite common, for any beginner, not to have enough energy to rock climb all day (especially if you are not an athlete).</p>
<p>Towards the end of the day, she didn&#8217;t give up. Her body said no, but her mind said, &#8220;keep pushing!&#8221;. As she struggled during her last climb of the day, she was remembering her first day climbing. How different her days had been from one another. How quickly she could see progress.</p>
<h2>That Rewarding Feeling</h2>
<p>Once on the ground, she began to explain how much this meant to her. To go from thinking climbing would be impossible for her, to actually setting a high goal for herself on her third day &#8211; and actually make it! She expressed how fun climbing was for her. How much joy reaching a summit would bring to her. Touching that top-rope anchor, feeling thankful to have good friends around and the great support of our guides.</p>
<p>This brings me back to the basics and the importance of being <a href="https://rockclimbeveryday.com/2016/04/05/things-california-outdoor-rock-climbing/">supportive</a> and positive to one another when out there with our partners.</p>

Throughout the day and during their first climbing experience, they learned proper equipment use, did some top rope climbing, scrambling, repelling, belaying, and learned some important safety skills required to climb with ropes.</p>

One of the most challenging parts of the day for both of them was figuring out climbing technique and overcoming fear of heights, which is very natural for most people trying rock climbing for the first time. With a little instruction and patience, they managed to complete many routes successfully and took on every challenge that came their way.</p>

Starting from a 40 foot wall, then moving onto a 55 foot wall and ending the day climbing a 100 foot wall &#8211; these two guys went home with a great feeling of accomplishment and lots of sore muscles.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Some may consider <strong>climbing indoors</strong> easier and less frightening because you&#8217;re dealing with plastic holds and fake walls, but someone can easily get hurt in an indoor gym just as they would outdoors. <a href="https://rockclimbeveryday.com"><strong>Climbing outdoors</strong></a> can be more challenging for some because you&#8217;re dealing with real <em>rock</em>, which can make a person automatically assume they are going to get hurt if they make a mistake. When you&#8217;re climbing indoors usually the routes are set to a specific level and in most cases is consistent throughout the entire route. When outdoors, the level of difficulty on a route is determined by the hardest move. So let&#8217;s say we have a 5.10 route with 1 difficult problem (which is often called the crux). Whatever the level of that hardest problem, is what the route will be rated. The rest of the route is easier than the 1 problem. An <em>outdoor route</em> can have a sequence of 5.6 moves, but if it has 1 hard problem that is rated 5.9, then that is what the entire route is rated. The highest level of 1 problem will determine the rating on the route.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There&#8217;s no rule or regulation that stipulates whether a beginner should start climbing indoors or outdoors, that should be based on convenience. Either can be a great start for anyone. Both places offer a variety of options for <em>beginners</em>, such as; instruction, information on gear and equipment.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Climbing indoors is not necessarily more or less expensive than climbing outdoors</span></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Let&#8217;s take for example:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">a person pays $50 month for a gym membership, multiply that by 12 month and the total cost is $600 for one year. That is assuming the this particular gym is going to teach you all the fundamentals you need to learn to do indoor rope climbing for free. </span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">a person pays $200 for a <a href="http://rockclimbeveryday.com/beginner-rock-climbing-classes/">beginner class</a> to learn rope climbing, another $200-$300 buying gear (rope, shoes, harness, belay device), and still have a spear $100-$200 they can use to take an <a href="http://rockclimbeveryday.com/rock-climbing-anchors-class/">anchor building course</a> and not have to depend on someone else to set up top ropes for them outdoors. The skills you learn will stay with you for many years and so will the gear, before you need to replace it. </span></li>
</ul>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">The amount of money that you&#8217;re going to spend really depends on how much climbing you want to do</span></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you&#8217;re just going to climb once every blue moon, because you may have other commitments or your job may not allow enough time, then indoor climbing or buying an outdoor guided trip would be the most cost effective and convenient way to go.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you decide to pick up <strong>climbing as a hobby</strong>, and want to or can commit more of your time to the sport, then it would be more cost effective to get the proper <strong>training courses</strong> and the proper gear.</span></p>

<p>All clinics will include general information and things to take into consideration when in the outdoors environment; plus a more detailed breakdown of the proper gear to use, when/how to use it and safety.</p>

<p><strong>PREREQUISITE FOR ALL CLINICS: </strong>Prior rope-climbing experience and gear required, which is listed below each clinic.</p>
<p><strong>Clinic 1 &#8211; Climbing the crag, top-rope climbing, basic gear and safety </strong>We are setting up several top-ropes for everyone, running tie-in and belay test to ensure safety, going over basic gear needed and how it is used. Throughout the day, we will have several discussions on fundamentals and differences between indoor and outdoor climbing. <strong>Gear required: </strong>Harness, climbing shoes, belay device, belay locking carabiner (HMS), helmet.</p>
<p><strong>Clinic 2 &#8211; Climbing technique and moving on walls </strong>We are setting up top-ropes for everyone, running tie-in and belay test to ensure safety. Clinic will focus on climbing technique and tips to help you become a better climber. We will be climbing all day, while practicing correct use of techniques learned. <strong>Gear required: </strong>Harness, climbing shoes, belay device, belay locking carabiner (HMS), helmet.</p>
<p><strong>Clinic 3 &#8211; Knots for climbing and anchors, basic gear and safety </strong>During the first half of the day, we will be practicing knots that can be used for climbing, anchor building, ground anchoring, protecting and friction. Then we will move on to using them on different scenarios/formations. If time allows, we will set up top-ropes for everyone, running tie-in and belay test to ensure safety and climb the rest of the day. <strong>Gear required: </strong>Harness, climbing shoes, belay device, belay locking carabiner (HMS), 4 foot 5mm cord, 20 foot 7mm nylon cord, two 48&#8243; nylon runners, 6 or more locking carabiners, climbing rope.</p>
<p><strong>Clinic 4 &#8211; Principles of anchor building, basic gear and safety </strong>Clinic&#8217;s main focus points are; safe anchor building, accessing the formation, what to use, what anchors to choose, etc. We will be building anchors and breaking them apart. We will discuss bolted, natural and pro anchors. <strong>Gear required: </strong>Harness, climbing shoes, belay device, belay locking carabiner (HMS), helmet, 4 foot 5-6mm nylon cord, 20 foot 7mm nylon cord, assorted 24&#8243; and 48&#8243; runners, 6 or more locking carabiners.</p>
<p><strong>Clinic 5 &#8211; Sport climbing, lead climbing, clipping, basic gear and safety </strong>We are setting up top-ropes for everyone, running tie-in and belay test to ensure safety. We will be addressing fundamentals and risk involved in lead climbing, differences between indoor and outdoor lead climbing, proper clipping techniques and practicing mock leads all day. <strong>Gear required: </strong>Harness, climbing shoes, belay device, belay locking carabiner (HMS), helmet, quick draws (10 or more), climbing rope.</p>
<p><strong>Clinic 6 &#8211; Cleaning routes, rappelling, basic gear and safety </strong>Clinic will focus on cleaning top-ropes and address difference scenarios you will encounter when doing so outdoors. We will review gear needed and how to keep yourself safe while cleaning. You are not required to lead routes to be able to clean them, so this clinic offers great benefit to climbers of all levels. <strong>Gear required: </strong>Harness, climbing shoes, belay device, belay locking carabiner (HMS), helmet, 4 foot 5mm cord, two 48&#8243; nylon runners, 4 or more locking carabiners.</p>
<p><strong>Clinic 7 &#8211; Trad climbing, gear placement, basic gear and safety </strong>We are setting up several top-ropes for everyone, running tie-in and belay test to ensure safety, going over basic gear needed and how it is used. During the day, we will have several discussions on fundamentals and differences between indoor and outdoor climbing. <strong>Gear required: </strong>Harness, climbing shoes, belay device, belay locking carabiner (HMS), helmet, trad rack, 4 foot 5mm cord, 20 foot 7mm nylon cord, assorted 24&#8243; and 48&#8243; runners, 6 or more locking carabiners, 10 or more non-locking carabiners.</p>
<p><strong>Clinic 8 &#8211; Basic Self-Rescue Clinic, basic gear and safety </strong>We are setting up top-ropes for everyone, running tie-in and belay test to ensure safety. We will be switching belays, creating scenarios in which a climber or belayer would need help, assisting a climber from below or above, and much more. <strong>Gear required: </strong>Harness, climbing shoes, break assisted belay device (such as Petzl, GriGri or Trango Cinch), belay locking carabiner (HMS), helmet, 4 foot 5mm cord, two 48&#8243; nylon runners, 6 or more locking carabiners.</p>
