Olga leading Touch and Go, a fun classic trad climb located inside Joshua Tree National Park in California; world-class climbing destination often referred to as “climber’s playground”.

We asked her to give us some feedback on the route and she said, “The route is fun. Is definitely one of the hardest 5.9’s I have ever climbed. There is too much chalk in places that don’t serve well as holds, so a leader needs to focus on making the moves that feel natural, rather than following chalk marks.”

We asked about beta and she said, “There is a combination of hand jams, stemming, drop knees, laybacks, face climbing and high steps – the combination of everything makes this climb a truly fun classic. I didn’t use the crack on the right side very much, if at all but to stem. Route protects very well, making it safer than most leads in Joshua Tree . . .”

Touch and Go Route Info

Touch and Go is a trad route rated 5.9, it can be done with a standard rack, and is located on the Echo Cove Back Side area. Its first ascent was made by Matt Cox, Bobby Kessinger and Dan Ahlborn in 1976.

Rock climbing anchors are highly important, must haves if you would like to go climbing on your own. There’s nothing like setting up your own harness systems, ensuring your safety on a climb and eventually reaching the summit you’ve been targeting. This is why taking up anchor building classes is very much crucial, especially if you’re a beginner. As you look through your course options, these criteria should help you in making a wiser choice on your class:

A Comprehensive Course on Climbing Anchors

Since anchor systems are quite important, what you must look for in a class would be thoroughness even if you’re still a basic learner. The modules must include safety and instruction demonstrations as coaches would be more hands on when it comes to overseeing how you would apply the basics which they have taught you.

If you have a shortlist of classes as you search for “climbing classes Joshua Tree,” then it would also be wise for you to ask for their curriculum or descriptions of your classes. This way, you would also know what to expect during your sessions.

Well-Endorsed Classes at Joshua Tree National Park

You’ll know you’re considering an exceptional training provider for rock climbing anchors when your rock climbing friends would endorse the school. You may also check out some online rock climbing community and even post your queries about looking for anchor building classes. The members who genuinely enjoy rock climbing should not hesitate on sharing the best classes they’ve had from one climber to another.

Ask about the Credentials of the School’s Los Angeles Based Instructors

It certainly would not be a bad thing to learn more about the background of your coaches. This way, you’ll have the assurance of being well-instructed as you literally learn through the ropes on how to build solid anchors. Since taking up anchor building classes can be quite detailed, you’ll need to make sure you can absorb the module’s details by having a comfortable rapport with your instructor.

Check on Your California Based School’s Affiliations

If a school has its network of causes and professional affiliations, then this means they do not hesitate to learn more about the best and safe practices of rock climbing anchors. Should you also want to socialize with your co-climbers, you may even ask for an event referral from the school. Safe and excellent climbing should be every hobbyist’s priority, and if your prospective school reflects these values via their affiliations, then this should be a plus.

These are just few of the features you must look for upon looking through a series of anchor building classes. Build on your own criteria, so you could get climbing soon.

Rock climbing is one of those pastimes that will give you a sense of empowerment and ensure that after you have done it, you feel like you can accomplish anything. When you are able to stand up above an incredible view after rock climbing and survey the ground below, there is something that is so powerful about this situation that you feel as though you are on top of the world.

How Can I Start as a Novice?

If you are new to rock climbing, you will be able to start with some easy rock climbing classes, this will mean that you are able to learn about all of the equipment you are going to need, safety precautions as well as a few locations you can start rock climbing that are not difficult. If you are looking for places to be able to have the classes, if you are in the Los Angeles, California area you will be happy to know that there are rock climbing classes at the Joshua Tree. This is a great way to get you acclimated to the process of rock climbing with an experienced expert who has been rock climbing for a long time. The climbing classes at the Joshua Tree are all led by experts as well as consultants who will assist you with your form and everything you need to know about your new passion.

Can I Take Climbing Tours?

If you are not sure that you are ready to begin with the entire process of taking rock climbing classes or rock climbing on a regular basis, another option for you is climbing tours. These are tours that are led by a guide and will allow you to experience the beauty of the Joshua Tree National Park as well as to experience outdoor climbing in a way that does not put you outside of your comfort zone. When you are spending time on a climbing tour, you will be with professional and friendly instructors who will lead you through all of the obstacles and situations while tied onto a secure rope. This way, no one gets lost or separated, and it is possible to enjoy the beauty of outdoor climbing without worrying about any part of the experience.

Joshua Tree National Park outside of Los Angeles, California is an incredible location, and it is very easy to see why people flock here from all over the world to take in the natural beauty as well as to learn how to rock climb and to be a part of climbing tours.
Crafted over millions of years by torrential rain, battering wind, and extreme temperatures, Joshua Tree National Park stretches over nearly 800,000 acres of rugged terrain. These landscapes, which can seem deceptively barren, are home to several ecosystems. Despite the harsh conditions, Joshua Tree teems with plant and animal life that has adapted and thrived in the area’s fierce climate.

Joshua Tree National Park is home to large herds of desert bighorn sheep, black tailed jack rabbits, coyotes and kangaroo rats as well as a number of smaller mammals. Since it lies along the Pacific migratory bird flyway, many large groups of migrating birds can be spotted overhead or stopping to rest in the park during the winter months.

The park’s namesake is the Joshua Tree, a member of the agave family with a distinctive appearance. The Joshua Tree was revered by American Indian tribes because its leaves provided durable materials for baskets and footwear, while the buds and seeds made a healthy addition to their food supply.

Joshua Tree National Park is a world class climbing destination. Climbers and bouldering fans come from around the world as it offers the most amazing high desert monzogranite climbing. With over 400 climbing formations and 8,000 climbing routes, it offers great challenge to climbers of all levels.

Make sure you are being good to the park. Learn about the Leave No Trace principles and do your part in the efforts being made to help protect its fragile desert environment and its habitat for plants and animals.
